Assisi is located on a mountainous layer of the Subasio’s group, and dominates the Topino and Chiascio valley. Walking through it’s tortuous and narrow streets, it is possible to breath the typical atmosphere of mysticism and peace, that plaiting with its medieval aspect, let Assisi be one of the most important tourist destinations. Further to admire the landscape beauties it is possible to assist to a lot of traditional festivals that take place all the year long.
Really touching are the religious celebrations during the Easter time, and in the first days of May you can attend the marvelous medieval Festival of Calendimaggio .
Important are also the celebration of the Ascension, Forgiveness’ day, the Feasts of Saint Rufino and Saint Chiara and naturally the celebrations of Saint Francis (Patron of Italy).
Of notable interest is the natural landscape of the surrounding hills, rich of olive groves and vineyards from which are produced a good wine and an excellent oil. These two products placed near other delicious products (cheeses, meats, mushrooms and truffles) give a particular taste of the Umbria cooking that can be tasted only in these zones.
