The Chiesa di San Giacomo was built in 1088 thanks to a donation by Ubertino di Guittone of Assisi to the Monastero (convent) of Farfa to satisfy the penance of 300 years imposed upon him by Bishop Giuliano of Gubbio. The church was given the name de Murorupto (broken wall) because it is located near the ruins of the city walls. In 1256 Abbot Giacomo of Farfa donated the Monastero to Abbess Benedetta of the Damianite nuns. She in turn gave it to the canons of the Cattedrale, receiving in exchange the Chiesa di San Giorgio where St. Clare was buried. In 1323 the nuns of San Donato de Flebulle on the Colcaprile acquired it but transferred to it only in 1458, when the Parish was suppressed, and remained there until 1897. Since 1902 it has hosted the Laboratorio di San Francesco, founded by Harold Goad for the poor young women of Assisi and supervised by the Suore Francescane Angeline. The laboratory hall is now used as a theater dedicated to Catherine Goad.
